1. Role Overview
The CAD Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, development, and manufacturing of composite parts and tooling. This role focuses on 2D/3D design, forming simulation, and tooling development to ensure product performance and manufacturability.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Design & Engineering
- Develop 2D flat patterns for composite layups considering forming constraints
- Convert 2D layouts into 3D forming patterns (spring-back, forming behavior)
- Design thermal forming molds based on 3D CAD data
- Create waterjet nesting programs to optimize material usage
- Simulation & Analysis
- Perform FEA analysis (forming simulation, stress/strain evaluation)
- Provide technical feedback to optimize customer designs
- Project & Process Support
- Participate in mold tuning and forming trials
- Collaborate with machine shop during tooling fabrication
- Apply DOE (Design of Experiments) for process optimization
- Manage engineering tasks, timelines, and deliverables
- Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work with customers and internal teams to align technical solutions
- Support manufacturing and process teams during production
3. Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
- Experience
- 0–3 years in CAD/FEA engineering (composites, plastics, thermoforming preferred)
- Technical Skills
- Proficient in CAD: SolidWorks, CATIA, NX
- Experience with FEA tools: Abaqus, Ansys
- Understanding of thermoplastic materials & forming processes
- Knowledge of waterjet cutting / nesting
- Soft Skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
- Good communication with customers and cross-functional teams
- Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure
- Preferred
- Experience in continuous fiber composites
- Lean / Six Sigma knowledge
- Mandarin & English communication
